Cem Meco, MD

Cem Meco, MD, FEBORL-HNS, FEBORL-HNS (Hon.) is Professor of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS) at Ankara University, Turkey, and Salzburg Paracelsus Medical University, Austria, and Adjunct Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College, USA.

He is Chair and President of the European Board Examination in ORL-HNS and has served for over a decade as an examiner and board member, earning an honorary fellowship for his contributions. From 2019 to 2022, he was President of the Confederation of European ORL-HNS (CEORL-HNS), the leading European body for the specialty, and still functions on its Presidential Council. He also serves on executive boards and advisory committees of major international societies, including the European and Turkish Skull Base Societies, the European Rhinologic Society, and the UEMS-ORL Section. He is Chair-elect of the International Advisory Board of AAO-HNSF and Scientific Chair for the Rhinology/Skull Base section at the 2026 IFOS World ORL-HNS Congress in Istanbul.

Dr. Meco received his medical degree from Ankara University and completed residency and advanced training in Salzburg, Austria, focusing on Otology-Neurotology, Cochlear Implants, Skull Base and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. Since 2004, he simultaneously has led major programs at Ankara University, including the cochlear implant and skull base surgery teams. From 2015 to 2018, he chaired the department before assuming his CEORL-HNS presidency.

A widely published author and speaker, Dr. Meco is also an invited faculty at global courses and conferences. He holds honorary or active membership in many national and international societies, including the Austrian, Hungarian, Polish, German, Turkish, American, Danube and Balkan ORL-HNS communities, and CORLAS.

As CEORL-HNS President, he helped establish the Young Confederation and European Training Platform. Recently, he spearheaded the launch of new European Board Exams in Facial Plastic Surgery and Phoniatrics, and initiated with his boards the European Progress Tests for residents .
