PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Many external auditory canal (EAC) pathologies relate to the EAC's unique skin characteristics and confined environment. With expertise from a dermatology colleague, this multi-disciplinary panel will expand your knowledge on skin conditions that impact the EAC, practical management pearls, and novel treatment strategies. What is myringitis? What is eczema? What is psoriasis? Why do ears itch? Do elderly have increased ear canal problems? What do you prescribe when ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone does not work? Learn the answer to these questions with informative didactic content and illustrative case examples.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Compare the pathophysiology of psoriasis, eczema, and myringitis.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Compare the roles of ear drops, ointments, powders, and novel medications in the treatment of ear canal diseases.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Implement novel treatment strategies to help patients combat problems of ear drainage and itching.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: This panel was born out of the 2023 ReFLEXions on EAC pathology. The panelists have collaborated with a dermatologist to provide an informative and practical discussion on ear canal diseases/management. Panelists are active on ONEC. There is one new panelist this year.
