(A1123) Impact of Short-Form, Case-Based CME on Clinician Knowledge and Competence in Treating Patients with CRSwNP

Introduction: Available biologics approved for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) are very effective at targeting type 2 inflammation which contributes to polyp recurrence. With expanded treatment options and evolving guideline recommendations, some clinicians are uncertain of how to appropriately integrate biologics into care plans. We aimed to determine if digital, short-form, cased-based education would improve clinicians’ knowledge and competence related to individualizing biologic therapy for appropriate patients with CRSwNP.

Methods: US-based otolaryngologists, allergists/immunologists, and pulmonologists participated in a 20-minute accredited medical education activity entitled, “Evidence-Based Approaches to Sequencing and Switching Biologic Therapies in Patients With CRSwNP and Comorbidities,” consisting of video and slides. Pre- and post-activity assessments were used to collect data regarding learners’ baseline scores and the impact of the education on knowledge and competence. Assessments were analyzed in aggregate and by specialty.

Results: As of January 7, 2025, 2,778 clinicians had participated in the education (data collection is ongoing). Overall, knowledge and competence increased by 16%; the largest improvement was related to identifying patients with CRSwNP who are candidates for biologics according to guideline recommendations (20%). Overall, learners were able to identify appropriate patients for biologics; however, application of guideline recommendations for managing CRSwNP with biologics was inconsistent among all specialties.

Conclusions: Digital, short-form, case-based CME improved knowledge and competence related to individualizing biologic therapy. It also elucidated persisting educational needs among clinicians that can be used to tailor future educational efforts.
