Nazineen Kandahari is an Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Resident at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She completed her M.D. at the University of California, San Francisco, as one of only fifteen students in the prestigious Program in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved (PRIME-US). She completed her M.S. in Health & Medical Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), where she also completed her undergraduate degrees in Public Health and Molecular & Cell Biology with honors. Nazineen’s research expertise is in immigrant health, community-based participatory research, and health inequities. Nazineen’s family is from Herat, Afghanistan, and they have instilled in her resilience, hope, and commitment to innovation and community service. In her free time, Nazineen enjoys mentoring underrepresented students, baking and eating pastries, hiking, and reading and writing poetry. Her poetry can be found in the book, Writing Afghan Lives Beyond the Forever War.
