Hani Samarah is a medical student at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and a past Otolaryngology Research Fellow at Thomas Jefferson University. He is currently applying to Otolaryngology residency programs in the 2025 cycle. His research interests include head and neck surgical oncology, immunotherapy, and translational studies in cancer biology.
During his research year, Hani contributed to several national presentations and peer-reviewed publications, with topics ranging from tumor immunobiology to patient-reported outcomes in thyroid and sleep surgery. He has received multiple research awards at national conferences and institutional symposia, as well as a competitive research grant to support his work at Thomas Jefferson University.
Beyond research, Hani has remained active in medical education, service, and leadership. He served on the Student Professionalism and Ethics Committee at FIU and is involved with the Global Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Initiative (Global OHNS), where he supports collaborative efforts to expand surgical equity and research in low-resource settings.
He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the American Head and Neck Society, the American Thyroid Association, and the International Surgical Sleep Society. In his free time, Hani enjoys running, hiking, yoga, and spending time with his family and two cats.
