Alexander Langerman is a head and neck surgeon and researcher at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Tennessee. He has spent his career studying the operating room and the surgical profession, through the lenses of ethics, data science, efficiency and innovation. Most of his training was at the University of Chicago, where he also served as faculty in both Otolaryngology and Ethics. During that time, he co-founded Explorer Surgical, a software-as-a-service company that provides team coordination and remote collaboration capabilities for the operating room; Explorer Surgical was acquired in 2021 by GHX. Now on the faculty of Vanderbilt since 2015, Dr. Langerman directs the surgical analytics lab, where he focuses on real-time surgical data acquisition and analysis, and serves as faculty in the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society, where he focuses on surgical recording and surgeon-patient communication surrounding controversial topics.
