James Ruda, MD is an Associate Professor within the department of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Ohio State University Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery for the past 13 years. Dr. Ruda previously completed his residency in Otolaryngology at Cleveland Clinic and a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Within the field of Pediatric Otolaryngology, his clinical interests involve the treatment of pediatric OSA, severe OSA, and surgical management of children with post-adenotonsillectomy, PAP-resistant OSA. He is the founder of the multi-disciplinary Persistent OSA Clinic at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for the management of children with persistent OSA. He is the surgical liaison to the Prader-Willi Clinic and surgical director of the emerging hypoglossal nerve stimulation program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Within the field of pediatric sleep, Dr. Ruda has developed multiple institutional QI initiatives regarding the improvement of sleep study communications to families, improvements in tracking and obtaining repeat postoperative polysomnographic studies in patients with severe OSA, and multidisciplinary coordination of care for children with newly diagnosed severe OSA. He has served on multiple committees within the AAO-HNSF over the past decade including the Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Journal Editorial Board, Infectious Disease, Sleep Disorders Committee, and Pediatric Otolaryngology committee and is the immediate past-chair of the Pediatric Otolaryngology committee for the past 3 years. He also currently serves as the ASPO representative to the Guideline Taskforce of the AAO-HNSF.
Dr. Ruda’s research interests involve the surgical management of severe OSA in children, efficacy of palatopharyngoplasty for the surgical management of severe or persistent OSA in children, and the multi-disciplinary management of recurrent/persistent OSA in children.
