Michael I. Orestes, MD, FACS is an otolaryngologist and laryngologist with the U.S. Army currently serving as the Program Director of Otolaryngology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He also holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University. Dr. Orestes completed his residency at the National Capital Consortium in Bethesda, Maryland, followed by a laryngology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. His clinical practice focuses on endocrine surgery, including thyroid and parathyroid procedures, as well as laryngeal carcinoma and minimally invasive approaches to the neck and larynx. Dr. Orestes is passionate about medical education and serves as a faculty development instructor for the Department of Defense. He has developed comprehensive curricula for otolaryngology residency programs and directed several courses, including the Combat Craniofacial Trauma Surgery Course and the Walter Reed Uniformed Services University Sleep Surgery Course. His research interests include novel treatments for obstructive sleep apnea and improving surgical education. Dr. Orestes has received multiple grants for his research and is committed to advancing both clinical care and medical training in otolaryngology.
