Selena E. Briggs, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS, is a board certified neurotologist. Dr. Briggs obtained a bachelor’s degree for the University of Pennsylvania followed by a medical degree and MBA at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at the University of Minnesota, and a fellowship in neurotology at New York University. She earned a PhD from the University of Minnesota for research on prevention and management of age-related hearing loss. Her areas of research interest include age-related hearing loss, cochlear implantation, healthcare quality and safety, disparities, wellbeing and clinical applications for artificial intelligence. She has served in leadership within multiple national organizations. Dr. Briggs was elected to the Audit Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNSF) where she served as chair of the committee. She has also served on numerous committees of the AAO-HNSF including the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Committee (current chair), Imaging Committee, Humanitarian Efforts Committee and Geriatric Committee (previous chair). Dr. Briggs served co-chair of the taskforce that developed the MIPS age related hearing loss measures for CMS on behalf of the Academy. She has served on the ANS Continuing Education Committee. She currently serves as the president of the American Society of Geriatric Otolaryngology.
Dr. Briggs is the Vice Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology, Medical Director of Audiology and President of the Medical and Dental Staff Board at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She is a professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She currently serves as the chair of the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Committee, MedStar Health System Otolaryngology Peer Review Committee and various other system quality initiatives. She has a commitment to quality and safety in healthcare improving the patient experience and outcomes for all.
