Dr. Jonathan Yip is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Section of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Calgary, and is a Rhinologist based out of Rockyview General Hospital. He completed his medical degree and residency training at the University of Toronto before pursuing an advanced fellowship in Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at Northwestern University (Chicago, IL, USA) under the mentorship of Drs. David Conley, Robert Kern, Kevin Welch and Bruce Tan. After fellowship, he returned to Toronto for three years before being recruited to the University of Calgary in 2022.
Dr. Yip’s clinical focus is on recalcitrant chronic rhinosinusitis, sinonasal tumours, and endoscopic skull base surgery (in collaboration with neurosurgery). His research interests include the development of quality metrics/indicators, as well as quality improvement and patient safety. He also serves as the Quality Improvement and Safety Lead for the Section Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Yip is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Quality at Queen’s University.
In addition, Dr. Yip is active in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate trainees. He currently serves on the Residency Training and Competence Committees for Postgraduate Education. As a trainee, he was voted by his co-residents as the “Resident Teacher of the Year” (2018). More recently, he was acknowledged as the “Faculty Teacher of the Year” in the Section of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Calgary (2023).
