PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The diagnosis and management of patients with vertigo, dizziness and imbalance are some of the most challenging tasks in medicine. Due to the wide range of vestibular, visual, and somatosensory deficits and disorders of central processing, an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan requires the expertise of a variety of specialists. In this panel, we will discuss the benefits of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach that brings together the expertise needed in a coordinated fashion for an optimal patient outcome. Topics will include formation and structure of the MDT, triage and entry into the MDT, coordination and communication between specialists, and the role of telehealth to create virtual MDTs and facilitate interaction. This panel will include input from the audience in its discussion of the format, function, and outcome of the MDT approach for optimal patient oucomes.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Determine how to form and structure a multidisciplinary team for the diagnosis and treatment of dizzy patients.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Understand how to coordinate and communicate between specialists on a multidisciplinary team using tools such as the electronic medical record and telehealth.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Poll audience regarding practice patterns for the management of dizzy patients, and explore the practicality and feasibility of the multidisciplinary approach in various practice settings.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Dr. Joel Goebel, past Equilibrium Committee Chair, presented a two hour international panel at the Barany Society Meeting in Sweden in 2024 on the multidisciplinary approach to dizziness. The Equilibrium Committee decided to base a panel off this talk to explore this with members of the AAO.
