PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This course will review the genetics of hearing loss, the history and mechanisms of gene therapy, and it up to the minute update on the progress of gene therapy for hearing loss in the US and the rest of the world

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Understand the Genetics appearing loss

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Describe how gene therapy has developed and is now utilized as a therapeutic intra-cochlear treatment.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Update the audience on the current status of gene therapy for the treatment of genetic hearing loss in children in both the US and around the world

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: In law accounts for 40 to 50% of all pediatric sensory neural hearing loss. Over the many decades advancements focused on individual gene detection and cloning, and genetic testing to understand the prevalence of genetics. Gene therapy is now being performed in finite populations.

Comprehensive Otolaryngology Track Statement : Otolaryngologists should be aware of the importance of properly diagnosing patients with genetic hearing loss as active intra-cochlear therapies are now a possibility. Has these trials advance and further application for hair cell regeneration in adults will be a potential option.
