PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The proposed session is an AAO-HNS Thyroid Cancer Tumor Board. The moderators will present cases which highlight challenges and advances in thyroid cancer management. The expert panel will be asked to share their experience and strategies for the work-up and management of varied clinical entities, including low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer, advanced thyroid cancer, oncocytic carcinoma and medullary thyroid carcinoma. Topics to be addressed include molecular analysis, active surveillance of low-risk lesions, surgical management of the invaded recurrent laryngeal nerve, and use neoadjuvant targeted therapy for the treatment of advanced thyroid cancer.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Appreciate the diagnostic utility and prognostic significance of mutational analysis in the diagnosis and management of thyroid cancer, including its application to initiation of neoadjuvant targeted therapy

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Discuss the role of active surveillance for low-risk lesions

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Develop an appreciation for thoughtful and strategic management of the invaded recurrent laryngeal nerve using state-of-the-art nerve monitoring techniques

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: There have been significant advances in thyroid cancer management, including advances in molecular analysis and targeted therapy for treatment of advanced thyroid cancer. This case-based tumor board session will address state-of-the-art contemporary management of thyroid cancer.
