Dr. Seong Keun Kwon is the professor at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and neck surgery at Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH), and division head of pediatric otorhinolaryngology (SNUH). He received his MD (1996), MS (2004), and PhD (2007) degrees at Seoul National University.
He is a director of Headquarters of Research Administration and Coordination of SNUH. He is vice president of Korean Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society(KTERMS) and vice president of Korean Biomaterials Society(KBMS).
As a researcher, he has been concentrating on the regenerating the trachea, vocal fold, salivary gland and oral mucosa with various scaffold, growth factors and stem cells. His papers were chosen as the front cover paper in the several journals such as Nanoscale and the Laryngoscope and highlighted in PNAS.
He has received the Casselberry award from the American Laryngological Association in 2018 and 2024. He became a corresponding member of ALA in 2019. He received Broyles-Malony award two times (2016, 2019) from the American Bronchoesophagological association, and also received numerous Korean domestic academic awards.
He developed, organized and hosted several joint workshops since 2011 to enhance the research on the tissue engineering for the head and neck defect. This workshop has enabled and promoted collaborative research between many otolaryngologists and tissue engineering researchers.
In March 2023, he founded the Bioprinting and Regenerative Medicine Research Association in Korea.
His clinical practice is focused on treating the airway, larynx, hypophayrnx, salivary gland, and thyroid.
He is hosting the domestic airway workshop and hands-on course every year in his hospital. He hosted the 7th Asia-Pacific Pediatric Airway Conference in 2023, and is a chairman of the academic committee of Asia Pacific Pediatric Otolaryngology Society 2025.
He is recognized not only in Korea but also internationally, and has been invited to give lectures and hands on demonstratton.
