Sara Stern, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatric Rheumatology at the University of Utah is dedicated to creating a better future for children with Childhood Sjögren’s Disease (cSjD). Her main research focus has been to describe differences in clinical presentation and outcomes of cSjD as compared to adult onset Sjögren’s Disease. To best achieve this goal in 2017 she became a co-chair of the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) cSjD Workgroup, as well as the International Childhood Sjögren Disease Workgroup. She co-authored manuscript evaluating the 2016 ACR/EULAR classification criteria for adult Sjögren’s disease for diagnosing cSjD. She also a co-leader on a project to develop the first international multicenter prospective cSjD Registry. She has co-created a pediatric multidisciplinary otolaryngology/rheumatology cSjD diagnostic clinic in December 2019 at the University of Utah. In addition to her research roles, she has collaborated with national and international organizations providing educational platforms and expertise to spread awareness and advocate for patients and families and has served as a medical consultant for the first Childhood Sjögren’s s Virtual Conference run through the Sjögren’s Foundation.
