Professor
Stanford University
Palo Alto, CA, United States
Professor, Chief of Sleep Surgery; Advisor at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign and Stanford Center for Clinical Research
I have immensely enjoyed leading the efforts to build a premier academic service with two full time surgeons and a fellowship program that is considered the top destination for candidates seeking to further their knowledge and skills in the field globally.
I have been part of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and I am committed to developing and supporting educational opportunities for colleagues worldwide. I have also been privileged to host 135 observers and/or visiting research scholars from over 20 countries. This diverse intellectual exchange has led to numerous research projects, invitations to present at national and international conferences, and honorary professorships in several countries.
Sleep Surgery is a field ripe for the implementation of an innovative approach. Its unique anatomy triggers diagnosis and access complexities. At the same time, Silicon Valley’s health innovation network triggered my interest in the complexity of the US healthcare ecosystem and how to impact it through a “physician-innovator and educator” angle.
As Advisor to Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign and Stanford Center for Clinical Research, I oversee the efforts concerning value-based, evidence intensive innovation initiatives, where I aim to utilize my interest and knowledge on the need for adequate, intense, and transparent alignment and interaction between academia/industry/ patient care to improve healthcare outcomes.
