Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics
Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health

My primary mission and enduring passion are to ensure that acutely ill and injured children receive the highest quality emergency care, whenever and wherever it is needed. Over the past five years, I have concentrated my research on leveraging simulation to enhance the quality and safety of pediatric care, addressing challenges at the levels of individual healthcare providers, teams, and broader health systems.
A significant milestone in my career has been the establishment and funding of the Pediatric Community Outreach Mobile Education (PCOME) Program. This initiative utilizes medical simulation to assess, measure, and improve the acute care provided to ill and injured children in community emergency departments throughout Indiana. Funded by the Indiana University Health Values Grant, the PCOME program exemplifies innovative collaboration between pediatric tertiary centers and local emergency departments.
In addition to leading the PCOME initiative, I have served as the principal investigator on several funded simulation-based research projects aimed at optimizing the readiness of emergency departments to care for pediatric patients outside specialized children's hospitals. I also hold the position of medical director of the Riley Hospital for Children Simulation Program at Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University Health.
Currently, I am Co-Chair of the ImPACTS (Improving Pediatric Acute Care through Simulation) network, which is dedicated to enhancing the care provided to ill children nationwide. As the lead investigator on the current ImPACTS study, my goal is to assess, measure, and improve the structure and processes of care in community hospital settings across the emergency continuum, employing innovative collaboration and in situ simulation. Through this work, I aim not only to advance pediatric emergency care within Indiana but also to contribute to national improvements in the field.
