Dr. Thompson serves as the Lauren D. Holinger Professor Chair of Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She has held faculty positions at premier institutions including the Mayo Clinic and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine/Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. In 2011 she achieved the academic rank of Professor, making her the first African American woman professor in the specialty of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in the United States. She is a thought leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion in medicine and actualizing patient-centric, value-based, and equitable care delivery models.
Dr. Thompson is a visionary leader with a diverse portfolio including service line and program development, change management and practice optimization through process improvement and design thinking resulting in innovative care delivery models. As value driven leader she is committed to actualizing patient centric, value-based care delivery models for equitable and fiscally-responsible care. Her lived experience as a 3rd generation African-American physician has shaped a personal mission to educate others about the unintended consequences of bias in health care, where she is recognized as a national thought leader.
