Cole Bird, MSCR, 2027 MD candidate, and former TL1 Scholar at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, is a passionate researcher focused on advancing the field of otolaryngology. His work spans a range of topics including dysphagia rehabilitation, song-based therapies, neurophysiological assessments, and quality of life. Cole's research also extends to cosmetic surgery, where he is exploring new ways to understand patient acceptance and outcomes in aesthetic procedures. With a background in advanced imaging and neurophysiological techniques, he aims to improve therapeutic approaches for swallowing disorders, olfactory impairments, and cosmetic interventions. Aspiring to become a physician-scientist, Cole is dedicated to integrating cutting-edge clinical research with patient-centered care. His early career has been shaped by a strong commitment to understanding both the neuroanatomic and behavioral aspects of otolaryngologic conditions. His research leverages diverse methodologies, including advanced imaging, qualititavie frameworks, and observational studies, with the goal of improving patient care and enhancing quality of life. As part of his TL1 training, Cole worked on innovative research involving the neurophysiology of dysphagia and patient adherence to therapy, which provided a solid foundation for his work in otolaryngology. In addition to his research endeavors, Cole completed a Master’s in Clinical Research (MSCR), where he gained expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, and the use of advanced software tools such as SPSS, R, and SAS. His training in research design, statistical modeling, and grant writing has equipped him with the skills to navigate complex datasets and drive forward impactful studies. Cole is eager to continue bridging the gap between clinical practice and research, focusing on improving outcomes for patients with swallowing disorders, sensory impairments, and those undergoing cosmetic procedures.
