Hetal Lad is a fourth-year medical student and current research fellow at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Organismal Biology and Physiology from Drexel University in 2021, followed by a year of clinical research at the University of Pennsylvania, where she gained experience in surgical outcomes research before focusing on otolaryngology.
Her research interests center on clinical and translational otolaryngology, with a focus on laryngeal cancer diagnosis and treatment, tracheal stenosis, and outcomes of vocal cord injection therapies. She is also passionate about the humanistic aspects of medicine, particularly quality of life before and after medical or surgical interventions. As a medical student, she founded Bergen Barbers, a student-run initiative that provides haircuts, shaves, and grooming services to hospitalized patients, helping restore a sense of normalcy during extended stays, especially following surgery.
In addition to her clinical pursuits, Hetal is committed to medical education and mentorship. She has designed curricula for middle and high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds aspiring to careers in healthcare and hopes to extend similar efforts to support her peers and future trainees in otolaryngology.
