Dr. Matthew Mifsud MD FACS is Vice Chairman of the University of South Florida Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Chief of the Division of Head & Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a past president of the Florida Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery. Under his leadership, the Head & Neck Microvascular Program at USF and its clinical partner, Tampa General Hospital (TGH), has grown into a regional and national center of excellence.
Dr. Mifsud’s clinical philosophy emphasizes innovative, multidisciplinary, patient-centered care. The microvascular surgical program he leads incorporates an enhanced recovery after anesthesia (ERAS©) model, which reduces ICU stays and accelerates recovery. He is also the founding member of the USF Center for Advanced Salivary Gland Surgery—the first of its kind in Florida—providing comprehensive care for salivary gland conditions, from inflammatory disorders to malignancies.
In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Mifsud is a dedicated researcher with contributions in epidemiology, treatment outcomes, and novel therapies for head and neck cancers. He is deeply committed to improving long-term survivorship and quality of life for cancer patients.
