James Kearney, MD is a Professor of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kearney is the Chairman of the Otorhinolaryngology Department at Pennsylvania Hospital, the Nation's First Hospital and part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He is a Comprehensive Otolaryngologist who is also boarded in Sleep Medicine. He has significant experience in education having served as the Associate Program Director for the Penn Residency Program from 2004 -2025 and is the Vice Chair for Education for the Department.
Dr. Kearney has used ultrasound as a clinical tool in his practice since 2004. He has co-directed the annual Philadelphia Region Resident ACS Thyroid, Parathyroid, and Neck Ultrasound Course since 2017.
He has expertise in Simulation training for residents and has served on the AAO-HNS Simulation Committee. He Co-Chairs the annual Simfest Course held in Philadelphia which draws PGY-3's and faculty from around the country for a full day of dedicated hands on learning.
He is the current Chair of the Academy History and Archives Committee.
