SUNY Upstate Medical University
My name is YeonSoo Kim, but I go by Kelly, and I am a fourth-year medical student at SUNY Upstate Medical University originally from Denver, Colorado with a deep appreciation for otolaryngology, not just for the surgical skill it requires, but for the people and culture that make up the field. Prior to medical school, I completed a three-year post-baccalaureate research fellowship at the NIH, where I developed a strong foundation in scientific investigation, but ultimately found myself drawn more to the clinical, hands-on aspects of medicine. Every experience I have had in ENT, from the operating room to clinic, has reinforced how much I enjoy working alongside the surgeons, residents, and staff who are dedicated, collaborative, and innovative. The strong sense of teamwork in ENT is something I genuinely value and hope to be part of in my career. Surgery has always been an important part of how I see myself practicing medicine. One of the reasons I am drawn to ENT is that, unlike many other fields, it offers the ability to continue performing a wide range of procedures throughout my career. I am especially drawn to programs that value mentorship, patient-centered care, and collaborative learning in a diverse setting.
