Sara Muttar, BA is a third-year medical student at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Spanish from Northwestern University, where she graduated with honors and was awarded multiple research grants, including from the NIH and Northwestern’s Office of Undergraduate Research.
Sara is currently involved in clinical research in the Department of Otolaryngology at Northwestern, working under the mentorship of Dr. James Burns to investigate patient outcomes in laryngology. Her interests lie at the intersection of voice, airway disorders, and improving patient-centered care through data-driven approaches. She has a background in both clinical and bench research, and has previously worked on projects related to the skin microbiome and pain perception.
At Feinberg, Sara is the founder and co-president of NAAMA NextGen, where she leads efforts to increase Middle Eastern representation in medicine and expand service opportunities in underserved communities. She is excited to pursue a career in otolaryngology with a focus on research, health equity, and patient communication.
