Lama M. Abdurrahman is a fourth-year medical student (MS4) pursuing an MD degree at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), located within the Texas Medical Center. She grew up in a small border community in South Texas and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). Lama is dedicated to addressing cancer treatment disparities, including acquired resistance prevalent among tobacco users. She is actively involved in Dr. Vlad Sandulache's basic science lab, leading a project on the impact of electronic cigarettes on promoting antitumor immunity. Lama has presented at a national conference on financial disparities among caregivers of head and neck cancer patients, even publishing her work in JAMA. Looking ahead, she is excited to pursue a career in Internal Medicine, where she hopes to provide holistic, longitudinal care and tackle systemic health disparities through both patient advocacy and research.
