Jan M. Ruiz Núñez is a fourth-year medical student at Ponce Health Sciences University (LCME accredited), pursuing his MD with anticipated graduation in May 2026. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus. A passionate researcher and community leader, Jan has led multiple research projects focusing on craniomaxillofacial trauma, gender disparities in surgical outcomes, and LGBTQ+ health. He has presented at national conferences including the LMSA Northeast and the ACS Puerto Rico Chapter, and has published peer-reviewed work in Cureus. Jan is President of the LGBTQ+ Health Professionals Interest Group and founder of the Surgical Oncology Interest Group at his institution. He actively mentors underrepresented students through the Rainbow-Med Mentorship Program, which he founded, and serves as Sub-Secretary of Health for the Federación LGBTQ+ de Puerto Rico, advocating for equitable healthcare policies. Deeply committed to community service, Jan has founded and coordinated initiatives such as Operation Three King Days, Operation Thanksgiving, and Fundación Construyendo Sonrisas, providing essential support to underserved communities in Lares and surrounding towns.
