PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) is undergoing a redesign of the Oral Exam for board certification in the primary specialty of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. This Panel Discussion will describe important details regarding why changes are being made, what changes are being made, implementation plans, and timeline of the new Oral Exam. Notably, this presentation will be 5 weeks after the first exam administration with the new format and information about the administration will be communicated. This session will be conducted with a brief talk that address key details followed by a Town Hall format with ample opportunity for questions from the audience. Leadership from ABOHNS will participate on the panel. The content of this session will be especially relevant for current residents, recent residency graduates, fellows, residency program directors, academic faculty, and attendees interested in physician assessment.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Explain the rationale for changing the format of the ABOHNS Oral Exam and the key principles that are guiding the changes.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Delineate changes to the structure, process, and requirements of the redesigned Oral Exam.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Describe implementation plans and the timeline for the redesigned exam.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: ABOHNS believes that a session addressing changes to the Oral Exam will continue to have interest for attendees. The 2025 Annual Meeting will be 5 weeks after the first administration with the new format. This Special Session at the 2023 and 2024 Annual Meetings was very well received.
