Dermatology in ENT –More Than Scratching the Surface

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This panel will follow a case-based approach to the evaluation and management of dermatologic issues in otolaryngology. This multidisciplinary panel will combine the expertise from dermatology, otology, and facial plastic reconstructive surgery to provide a comprehensive approach to infectious, inflammatory, and other benign and pre-malignant skin conditions seen by ENTs. Management options ranging from systemic and topical medications (antiseptics, antimicrobials, anti-inflammatory) to clinic procedures to surgical care will be discussed. Considerations when treating patients with systemic conditions which can manifest in the ear, face and neck such as eczema, psoriasis, lupus, and other dermatidites will be reviewed.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Recognize morphology and symptoms of dermatologic conditions affecting the ear canal, pinna, face and neck

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Describe treatment strategies in the management of dermatologic conditions involving the ear, nose, face and neck.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Review the range of topical steroid therapies and their alternatives.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: ENTs must understand dermatologic conditions affecting the care of other otolaryngologic pathology and also primarily treat dermatidites affecting the ear, face or neck. This panel will combine the perspective of a dermatologist with those of otologic and facial plastics specialists.

Comprehensive Otolaryngology Track Statement : Dermatologic issues affect the care of the ear, nose, face and neck. This panel will target care of the skin in each of these areas and is broadly applicable to the practice of a comprehensive otolaryngologist.
