White Lesions of the Oral Cavity: How Should These Be Managed?

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Oral white lesions are a prevalent and challenging clinical scenario for otolaryngologists. The variety of lesions, variability in behavior patterns, and unclear treatment recommendations make management of these lesions complex and in continual flux. This panel will review the variety of oral white lesions, cancer risk factors for these lesions, treatment options and algorithms, and ongoing advances in this field. The panel will also review evolving practice patterns for the management of oral white lesions using case-based presentations.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Understand the variety of oral white lesions, and their malignant potential, and presentation signs and symptoms associated with higher malignant potential.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Integrate up-to-date data and algorithms into the workup and management of oral white lesions into clinical practice.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Implement initial diagnosis and surveillance recommendations of oral white lesions into clinical practice.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: This is a resubmission of a well-received and well-attended panel discussing current guidelines and management of oral white lesions. This is a clinical challenge to all otolaryngologists. We will review up-to-date literature and guidelines via an expert panel and cases.
