Innovations in Office-Based Therapy for the Rhinology Patient

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Since the advent of balloon sinus dilation, numerous office-based techniques for the treatment of diseases that affect the nose and paranasal sinuses have been introduced. In order for these technological advances to be successful, they must be appropriately applied based on disease- and patient-specific factors. In general, current office procedures for rhinology may be split into two categories: procedures for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and procedures for the treatment of chronic rhinitis symptoms.
The first part of this panel will present a framework that summarizes commonly performed office rhinology procedures. For the CRS procedures, balloon sinus ostial dilation and mometasone implants, as well as in-office office revision surgery, will be reviewed. For the rhinitis symptoms procedures, posterior nasal nerve ablation, nasal valve procedures (both radiofrequency and lateral nasal wall implants), and radiofrequency remodeling of turbinates and septal swell bodies will be presented. A case-based format will provide the framework for exploring the decision-making process for patient selection.
In the second part of this panel, coding and reimbursement strategies will be presented. Newer codes, including the radiofrequency nasal codes, will be discussed. The codes for mometasone implants will be reviewed.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Using a case-based approach, understand the indications for various in-office procedures for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis, including balloon sinus ostial dilation and mometasone implants.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Using a case-based approach, understand the indications for various in-office procedures for the treatment of rhinitis symptoms, including posterior nasal nerve ablation, radiofrequency remodeling of the nasal airway and lateral nasal wall implants

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Develop a strategy for coding and revenue cycle management for posterior nasal nerve ablation, radiofrequency procedures, mometasone implants and lateral nasal wall implants

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Office procedures include methods for chronic sinusitis (balloon sinus ostial dilation, revision procedures, mometasone implants) and for nasal symptoms (posterior nasal nerve ablation, radiofrequency and lateral nasal wall implants). Familiarity with coding strategies is essential.
