PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Botulinum toxin has been used successfully for decades to treat voice disorders such as adductor/abductor laryngeal dystonia, and more recently essential voice tremor. This session will delve into a systematic approach to diagnosis, technical execution, and thoughtful analysis of response to treatment with the goal of consistent outcomes. Attendees will leave with a working knowledge of the art of using botulinum toxin injections for voice disorders. Part 2 here will focus on starting dose/titration dilemmas, strategies for troubleshooting suboptimal outcomes, and managing complications.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Develop a framework for integrating patient factors and goals into selection of a starting dose, appropriate counseling for treatment naive patients, and monitoring treatment response

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Navigate dosing dilemmas during titration to an optimal therapeutic dose and modifying injection target/approach based on treatment response

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Utilize appropriate strategies for troubleshooting suboptimal outcomes and complications of botulinum toxin injections

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: There is a need for practical review of botulinum toxin's clinical uses and methodology for voice disorders, particularly as this material is not uniformly taught in residency training programs.
