Vestibular Migraine: Practical Tips for Diagnosis and Treatment

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Vestibular migraine (VM ) has emerged as one of the most common etiologies for recurrent and/or chronic vestibular symptoms in the general population. The presentation of VM can vary widely and often can masquerade as other disease processes, such as Meniere's disease (MD). The goal of this instructional session is to discuss migraine pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria of migraine (including VM), and cover the various treatment options that may be beneficial for patients. We will also cover the significant overlap between VM and MD to help guide the clinician to make better decisions in treating patients with this challenging condition.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: List the underlying pathophysiology to migraine and the diagnostic criteria for vestibular migraine.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Implement various treatment strategies for patients diagnosed with vestibular migraine.

OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Recognize the difference between vestibular migraine and other vestibular conditions (Meniere's disease, PPPD, and others).

BACKGROUND STATEMENT: We hope to bring clinical expertise to review the current diagnostic criteria and treatment options for these patients. We also focus on treating the difficult situations where vestibular migraine and other conditions sometimes overlap, especially Meniere's disease and PPPD.
