Evaluation of the Efficacy of Mobile Internet-based Personalized Vestibular Rehabilitation for Otogenic Vertigo

Introduction: Compare the differences between personalized and standardized vestibular rehabilitation treatment and establish a new method of convenient and efficient vestibular rehabilitation treatment.

Methods: We recruited 51 patients with otogenic vertigo who were admitted and voluntarily enrolled by six multicenter otolaryngology-head and neck surgery departments from September 2019 to August 2021. Patients were randomly divided into a standard vestibular rehabilitation group and a personalized vestibular rehabilitation group and received vestibular rehabilitation treatment with corresponding protocols. A follow-up visit was conducted after 6 months of vestibular rehabilitation to assess the difference in vestibular rehabilitation efficacy between the two groups.

Results: Based on mobile internet technology and dynamic assessment of vestibular disability status, real-time remote adjustment of patients' vestibular rehabilitation treatment plan. After 6 months of vestibular rehabilitation, there was a significant difference in the improvement of DHI scores in the personalized vestibular rehabilitation group compared to the standard group of vestibular rehabilitation (P=0.0012). There was a significant positive correlation between baseline DHI scores and patients' depression, anxiety level, and sleep quality (r=0.6361, P < 0.0001; r =0.5492, P=0.0004; r=0.3971, P=0.0201). Among them, the difference in DHI scores before and after vestibular rehabilitation was statistically significant (P=0.0006). There was a significant positive correlation between DHI scores improvement and depressive status after vestibular rehabilitation (r=0.2943, P=0.0157).

Conclusions: Patients can benefit from real-time remote adjustment of vestibular rehabilitation treatment based on mobile Internet and dynamic assessment of vestibular functional disability status. The efficacy of individualized vestibular rehabilitation is superior to that of standard vestibular rehabilitation programs.
