(A1009) Impact of Personalized Educational Initiatives on Otolaryngologists' Knowledge and Confidence in CRSwNP Management

Introduction: Educational initiatives with a goal of optimizing patient outcomes by targeting individual knowledge, competence and confidence gaps in CRSwNP management were compared.

Methods: Two online activities launched in 2022 and 2024, using self-assessment and an adaptive learning approach to improve learners’ ability to identify patients who may benefit from targeted biologic therapies, address type 2 inflammatory comorbidities, and incorporate appropriate therapy. Baseline learners responding correctly with high confidence (achieving “mastery”) could bypass content and focus on areas of need. Pre- and post- knowledge, skills, and confidence were measured through multiple-choice assessments, and learners were grouped by responses: 1: Optimal knowledge/competence + high confidence; 2: Optimal knowledge/competence + low confidence; 3: Suboptimal knowledge/competence + low confidence.

Results: 2,054 otolaryngologists participated. In 2022, group 1 (mastery) increased (17% to 39%), group 2 (40% to 52%), and group 3 decreased from 36% to 10%. In 2024 group 1 increased (31% to 50%), group 2 (30% to 37%), and group 3 decreased from 35% to 13%. Gains in knowledge, competence, and confidence were evidenced by growth of groups 1 and 2 and reduction of group 3 in both activities. Strengths and opportunities based on areas assessed appear to be consistent over time, yet the % achieving “mastery” at baseline nearly doubled between 2022-2024 (17% to 31%). In 2024, a larger proportion of learners in groups 2 and 3 at baseline achieved mastery post-activity.

Conclusions: Scores were highest in understanding clinical signs of CRSwNP, diagnostic criteria, identifying severity, and association with comorbid type 2 inflammatory disorder. Room for improvement remains in skills integrating biologics appropriately, including considerations of which therapy to choose and discussing options with patients. Learners indicating low confidence post activity decreased (62% to 50%). These results indicate that this educational approach can be successful in reinforcing key concepts and skills and reducing learners’ uncertainty.
